Frequently Asked Questions

What does the process look like?  When you arrive, we can discuss the results you want and the purpose of your portrait. We'll choose a background and begin your session. I will guide you with posing tips to show your best side to the camera and engage with your audience. As we progress, we can check the images and make adjustments or change backgrounds and outfits. We then will look over all your photos on a large screen display. We'll compare details side by side and pick the "winner(s)". After the session I will complete the portrait with cropping, adjustments and retouching.  Your finished portrait is delivered by email. You will pay for your portraits before leaving the studio. All major credit cards, cash and checks are welcome. You will not receive your retouched portraits until paid for in full.

How long does it take? A Basic Session is scheduled for 30 minutes for a single portrait, a Portrait Plus Session is scheduled for 45 minutes. We often have a portrait that you love in much less than the time allotted. Typically, your finished portraits will be delivered within one or two days.  Let us know if you have a rush situation.

What does, "Complete but natural", retouching mean?  We want you to look your very best.  Retouching involves several steps. First the color and tones of the image are fine tuned. Next, every part of the photo is examined for lint, stray hairs, makeup smudges, and blemishes. Face wrinkles and age spots are addressed but not completely eliminated, to retain a flattering but natural look. Any unwanted redness or razor burn is toned down. Any bumps and wrinkles in clothing are smoothed. Lastly, the skin is gently softened.

Can I request retouching for certain areas?  If you’re feeling self-conscious about anything from skin to hair or just feeling "bloated", I am happy to address concerns with zero judgment. I can include one additional adjustment per photo, but if you would like several, there may be an extra fee.

Can I just have the raw, unretouched images? No. A raw unfinished image is not the experience or product I offer.

Can I bring someone with me? Of course, your partner or a friend who knows you can be invaluable in choosing the portrait that best reflects the real you. They'll be on my side of the camera encouraging you.

I can't make up my mind. Can I choose more poses? Of course! You can "upgrade" your Basic Head & Shoulders session to a Portrait Plus session at any time and add images a-la-carte for $65 each after that.
