About the photographer

Robert became a serious photographer in high school.  DeAnza College, in Cupertino California, was his choice for formal photographic education. While a student at DeAnza, Robert met Ansel Adams at the famed photographer's home in Carmel Highlands.   Adams' belief that, "Mastery of craft makes a photographer's work more powerful", influenced Robert's passion for technical excellence.

Robert's photographic skills led him into a twenty-one-year career in aerospace.  Beginning as a darkroom technician, Robert became a specialist in "macro" photography and photo microscopy.  Robert also "moonlighted" as a wedding and event photographer for established studios and also served seven years in the Army Reserve during this time.  His duties included Drill Sargeant, Photojournalist and Aerial Imagery Interpreter. When his enlistment in the Reserves ended, Robert pursued his side business and photographed scores and scores of weddings over the years.  His expertise photographing shiny objects and fine detail expanded his clients to include high tech companies in Silicon Valley.

In 1994 Robert purchased a modest studio business in downtown Placerville.  Studio services covered everything from passport photos to school photos, portraits of individuals, families and high school seniors, weddings and copy and restoration.  Robert expanded this offering with commercial photography of jewelry and other products for local artisans and tradesmen.  A number of R.O.P. students, work-experience interns and assistants "learned while they earned" working with Robert. Free costume portraits on Halloween and photos with Santa made the studio a part of the Main Street Placerville community. In 2009, a 400 square foot studio space with a separate entrance was added at our property.  This is where we now specialize in portraits for executives and professionals.

While a digital camera is his choice for studio portraits, travel and astrophotography, Robert continues to practice the craft of black and white photography with vintage cameras and a complete darkroom.  Robert and wife Anne have taken a number of exotic adventures around the world and enjoy RV travel throughout the west for photographic getaways.
