About the Photographer
Robert has been serious photographer since high school, DeAnza College in Cupertino California, was his choice for formal photographic education. Meeting the famed photographer Ansel Adams in his home in Carmel Highlands while a student at DeAnza was a major inspiration. Adams' belief that, "Mastery of craft makes a photographer's work more powerful", influenced Robert's passion for technical excellence. Robert's photographic skills led him into a twenty-one-year career in aerospace. Robert became a specialist in "macro" photography and photo microscopy. Robert also "moonlighted" as a wedding and event photographer for established studios. From 1970 - 1977 Robert served in the Army Reserve as Infantry Drill Sergeant, Photojournalist and Aerial Imagery Interpreter. With Army service completed, Saturdays during the summers were filled with the challeges and rewards of wedding photography. High tech clients in Silicon Valley came to Robert for his expertise in difficult to photograph production equipment.
In 1994 Robert purchased a modest studio business in downtown Placerville. A true full service studio, work ranged from passports, copy and restoration to preschool classes, portraits of individuals, families and high school seniors, weddings and coporate events. Robert also found a demand for commercial photography of jewelry, tile and stonework and other items for local artisans and tradesmen.
Numerous R.O.P. students, work-experience interns and assistants from both Union Mine and Ponderosa High "learned while they earned" working with Robert. Robert also served as one of the site adviors for the Ponderosa R.O.P. Photography program. Free costume portraits on Halloween and photos with Santa made the studio a part of the Main Street Placerville community for many years. In 2009, a 400 square foot studio space with a separate entrance was added at our property. This is where we now specialize in portraits for executives and professionals.
While a digital camera is his choice for studio portraits, travel and astrophotography, Robert continues to practice the craft of black and white photography with vintage cameras and a complete darkroom. Robert and wife Anne have taken a number of exotic adventures around the world and enjoy RV travel throughout the west for photographic getaways.
